73-05-13 Yolo Co. Cal May 13th 1873 to E Damrell from LF Canterbury Dear Mother I seat myself to communicate to you vary painful news, biz the Death of Amor. Yes she died on the 10th of this month and now sleeps beside our dear children, Julia & Oony. While we have Returned to our home lonly and sad and oh how vacant and lonely, our home seems to be. But Death Enters and then no defence. his time there's none can tell, we would bow with meekness and kiss the rod that smites us, but how weak is poor human nature. but we Remember the promise. "My Grace is sufficient." we believe this promise and will try to press on to duty. She was sick nearly two weeks, was taken vary bad, at first but not any more so then she had been many times before. we used the same Remedies we had used before in a few days she was better and we thought she would soon be up again and she thought so herself. about two days before she died, I did not like the simptons and spoke to her about it, she told me not to be alarmed that she was doing vary well. that was Friday morning, in the Evening I send for John & Eliza. to my mind she was getting worse all the time but she said not so but was better. about 10 Oclock Saturday I asked her what she thought about it. She said she was better. I then told her she must die, she said if that was the case it was all Right. I then asked her if she felt prepared to die. She answered with emphasis, Oh Yes pa. at half past 4 Oclock that evening she passed away, like an evening summer breeze, peaceful and gentle. Rest, in peace loved one, Quiet, be thy slumbers, she would not consent to have any Dr. I will have her obituary published in the St Louis Christian Advocate, if you get to see that paper, you will see it there in a few weeks. And now Dear Mother you can guess how desolate we feel. I think I will by a place in Colusa Co and put Andrew with my stock on it and that myself, Alice & Milty will move to the Town of Colusa. I want them to go to school and I want to be so situated that I can be with them. at home all the time. We have been looking for a Letter from you for a long time. what's the matter. give our Love to all the friends. please write to me soon if you can't, have some of the rest to write. for the present direct to Yolo, Yolo Co Cal.
