75-02-14 Buckeye Yolo Co Cal Feb 14th 1875 to E Damrell from EENorton Dear Grand Ma We received your long looked for letter yesterday. it found us all well, but sorry to hear of your poor health. Oh, what joy it gives me to read a letter from one I love so well. every letter I get from you, it makes me think more of home. When I could see you offten my earnest desire is to see you again in this life. if we was able I would visit you this coming fall but we owe a good deal on our place yet but I am comeing back on a visit to MO if we live and keep our health. Oh Grand Ma if I could come now to see you it would be the greatest pleasuer of my life. I have so many things to tell you I hardly know what to say first. Well a bout Pa. he is married. he maried a widow woman from Ill Jennie Burlin was her name she came to Cal on a visit three years ago is when Pa got acquainted with her. I saw her then. I have never seen Pa since he was maried. she is a vary nice woman. we was all willing for Pa to marry. he asked us all. Augustus & Andrew & Alice have all bin dow on a visit this winter and stayed five weeks. I feel lonesome now they was here so long. Pa lives about 70 miles from me. it will soon be a year since I was home. that does seem so long. Pa is coming soon to see us. Well I must tell you we have had the finest winter you ever saw. every thing so nice and green. Oh! I wish you was hear I think it would you good to be here in winter. John's crop looks well. he has in 2 hundred acres. I must tell you this is a great place to raise all kinds of poultry. I am agoing to raise chicken & duck & turkey. Mother Norton and I sold 70 dollars worth of Turkeys last fall. this is a great place for the woman to have pocket change. poltry is not as high as it used to be but still it pays to raise poltry yet. Mr. Hulette is here to night the first time for along time. This is Sunday evening. we have bin to church to day. there is a babtist church 2 1/2 miles from us. I guess Pa told you about Augustus health. he has bin in vary poor health for along time. at time he was all most in saine to heer him tell how he fell when he is out of his mind would make the hair raise on your head. Pa and I where the only ones that could do any thing with him. I would not tell you half the trouble I have seen about him. I am afraid he never will be right again but he is better now though at times wild. You must excuse this short letter for it is getting late. John and Mr. Hulette is talking so I can hardly write I have to listen to them and write so give my love Aunt & Uncle Ning. I would write some to them if I had time. my love to all enquiring friends and a thousand good wishes for youself. I hope to see you some time if not in this life I hope to in the one to come.
