75-11-23 Colfax Whitman County W. T. November the 23td 1875 to E Damrell from Cynthia Henderson Dear Grand Ma, Once more in life I am blessed with the privilage of dropping you a few lines to inform you we have not forgotten you and never will as long as life lasts. You are very near and dear to us, though we can not see you or hear you talk still you are in our memory yet. It has been a long time since I wrote to you, and I waited for on an news from you it did not come. Then I wrote to Pa to know why you did not write I thought you had got feble to write, you said you would write to us as long as you could. Pa did not write to give us any satisfaction so we seldom hear from Home any more unless it is by the way of others letters, we recd a letter from Abba not long since. telling us she had been to Sullivan on a visit and they was all well, You cant imagine the satisfaction her letter gave. She also said you read and write without specks. Oh Grand Ma I wish we could see you. It has been over 12 long years since me met. time has changed us all surely since then still we are the same persons. Everything would seem strange if we could go back there. Have you got you a set of teeth Grand Ma. They say they are such a help to old folks. that is healthy for them to chew their food. Pa must look pretty old by this time. we would be so glad to get letters from him regular, I think it is to bad, none of our folks writes hardly. Ben is the closest to us, on my side of the relations and he lives a bout 5 or 6 hundred miles from us maybe more. we are living in sight of Willie Henderson. he is still keeping house with his children. they do very well to considering there is no woman there. He says he must get a woman to take care of the house, for it is to much care on his mind to have the care of the house and out doors to. Hannah and her husband lives 217 miles from here. The time seem long between our visits. she hardly ever gets to come here and I don't get over there. I dont go away from home often, Roberts health has been so Poor for nearly 2 months. he is you might say only able to go about. cant work but little at a time. his lungs hurts him so. has a pain in his Breast. Coughs so hard, sits up a good deal, like one that is consumptive. He had a spell of bleeding at the lungs last spring. He get hoarse every Night. part of the time can hardly speak above his breath. Robert went with a man to Colfax yesterday has not got back yet. The time seems long and lonely when he is gone, knowing his situation. It draws like cords around my Heart, but I must wipe away my tears knowing we only have one comforter and we must all look to him to be comforted, Through many sorrows and Affictions in this unfriendly world. Grand Ma I dont write you this to make you sorrow. You have lived to be old and went through more sorrows and afflictions than I ever expect to see for I have no Idia I will live to be as old as you are; time rolls swiftly on to call us all Home. Sister Abba wrote to me to give you all the Particukulars about our Family and Bens also. Bens seldoms write to us. We recd a letter from Sister Caroline not long since here and husband is in poor health. they have gone to Bens to stop all winter. She said Bens was welll. they have 6 children I believe if Caroline didnot make a mistake in her letter their P. O. is Myrtle Creek, Douglas Co Ogr.... Grand Ma it is nearly 11 oclock and I will close telling you we have 3 children and they are all going to school. times are hard here. we have had winter weather a month. the creek is frozen over, please answer soon. we all join in love to you and all the rest of our relations and Friends their.
