76-08-09 Writsburgh Walla Walla Co W. T. August the 9th 1876 to E Damrell from R & C Henderson Dear and Loving GrandMa your kind and affectionate letter bearing date July the 14th came safe to hand on Friday July the 29th. I was up to town and to see the Doctor about my eyes. I got my left eye poisind. it is well now but my right one is inflamed all the time. Robert does not gain any. he thinks the Drs. medicine is doing no good. We are so glad to hear of your health improving so fast, but sorrow to hear of your cold and cough. we have had more rain and cool wether then usual here. It seems to to be pretty healthy generally. Grand Ma I answered Pas letter a week ago and would answered yours also but I was so hurried fixing for the Thrashers after Sabbath day. I could not answer, they came here last Saturday and stayed until Monday. They did not work Sabbath but the Lady that helped me and I had to work. we only got 2 meals but there was 20 and 20 odd a part of the time..2 headers and a thrasher;_______ you knew it looked like business but grand Ma the expense a mounts up. our grain did not turn out very much to the Acre. Grain dont turn out so well other Places as they thought, well I just got my washing and Ironing done since thrashing. We will haf to have a hedars one half day next week. I reason grain is pretty well all cut in our part. wheat is only 25 cts bushel maybe a little more. Grandma this is quite a different letter to the other letter I wrote to you and not any nearer Cal than we was when I wrote the other to you. there is no telling we may go there some day. Though the People seem to think any one with weak Lungs had better stay in a cool climate. I wish we had some of that Medicine. if it could do Robert any good the Dr says he is throwing time away taking Patent Medicines, some say go to the mountains and don't take any medicine and we dont know what to do for the best. So here we have bought a crop and garden wich will do to live on until we can raise again if the Lord is willing. We are close to a School house. There will be 3 months School this Fall. We have been to church twice since we been here. It reminds me of old times. William Henderson's two oldest Boys are down in this part of the county working through Harvest. They are getting a long pretty well considering they have no Mother to care for them. It is cloudy and looks so much like rain this Evening. I never saw the flies so bad as they are here, I dont think. I will write to Bens soon and tell them all that you wanted me too. I haven't heard from them in a long time, you cant imagine the pleasure it gave me to read a letter from our Poor Dear Father once more. (I thought he had so many children to care for and so much on his mind that he could not write to all and so he would write to none) I must quit and get supper. the man that owns the place boards with us at 8 Dollars per month Thursday morning the 10th We are well as usual. Trust this may find you well, and the Friends also. It rained last Night and the wind is blowing quite cool this morning. There is considerable ?Tervil this year. blackberries are ripe now they are ready laid but we have none on this place, we have apples, we are glad to hear Pa has ?Leruit to do them I wish we lived near by you all. Grand Ma you can see Pa's letter and Pa can see this and prehaps you can get some information from them both, I love to get letters from our near and Dear Friends, but when I come to answer them I hardly know what to say to interest them. If there is anything you want to know, write in your next, Robert is going to Town and I must close for the present. our Kind regards to all our Loving Friends and a Large share for yourself. please answer soon as you can. Farewell your affectionate Grandchildren R & C Henderson I forgot whether I told Pa to answer my letter or not. I hope he will answer soon.
