77-08-06 Winters, Yolo Co, Cal August 6th 1877 or 71 from EE Norton to E Damrell Dear GrandMa, Your letter of July 23 came safely to hand soon after our arival from the Mountain. We was so glad to heare from you again. we all well and hope the same with you. We was gone nearly three weeks i the mountains. We saw a great many nice springs of water while we was gone. We received a letter from Cynthia Henderson bearing the sad news of Robert. She is left so faraway but hope she will get along. I expect you have heard of it before this time. We simpathazide with her in her sad hours. Well Grand Ma I have given up coming to see you this fall, but expect to come next summer if you live and I do and all is well. I have some friends that is a going to MO for a visit and I would like to go with them. I can leave home better next summer as my baby will not be so much trouble. he is Just the right size to get in everything. John say he cannot go with me. Sammie wants to go with me. he is vary anxious for trip and thinks it would be to long for me to stay away unless he can go. I think a long time to wait but live in hopes that I get to see you once more i this life. I cannot ask you to write as often as I do for I know its a great tasks for one of your age to write. but I am all way so glad to get a letter from you. it makes me think of home when we all was together. now scattered abroad through the land prehaps never all to be togather again. The boys are all in Humbolt County when last heard from. they have never written to me since they went away. I suppose they are to busiy to write. Andrew said they would come back in September. I think the time long to see them. I am writing by lamplight, al is gone to bed, our camp meeting commenses this next week. We want to go all we can don't know whether we will tent or not. Father Norton is not vary well and we cannot leave unless he is better. he was taken a week ago today with blindness and swimming of the head. he is better now. I have had so much to do since we came back from the mountains. Ma has had a sick spell not long ago heart disease. Pa thinks he will go in the Mountains with her.
