78-07-22 Winters Cal July 22nd 1878 from EE Norton to E Damrell Dear Grand Ma This is the day set to start to MO to visit you and my friends but I cannot get of at the present. the Lady that was a going to keep house for me I failed to get. I did not know positively untill saturday night that I could not get her. I went after her last Wednesday and exspected to start on Monday but the Woman that she was working for would not give her up. Now I will have to hunt another Woman to keep house for me before I can come. but do not be discouraged for I will come as soon as I can get another Lady. I never was so disapointed. I have heard of another and I will go and see her. I have read so much about the heat killing People and horses in the east I am all most afraid to start Just now if I had someone to keep house. Pa thinks it would be better for me to wait awhile on the account of the hot weather back there. heat overcomes me vary easy. I am all ready to start. that is I have all my sewing done. I can get ready in one days time. pack my Trunk, cook some to take with us. Father Norton is vary poorly, is not able to sit up. They both send their best respects to you and all enquiring friends. I am afraid you cannot read this I have bin washing to day and my hand cramps this leavs us all well and hope to see you soon.
