I (C. Renee Swicegood) complied a large quantity of information about the 
Daugherty (Daughtery, Darity, Darty) clan from 1986 - 96 for my former 
father-in-law, James Daugherty.  James' father died several months before 
he was born and he had little contact with the Daugherty family beyond a 
few visits with his aunts and uncles in Clinton, TN and no knowledge of who 
his grandparents had been.  He requested I make this information available 
to other researchers a few months before going on to his final reward in the 
summer of 1998.  Those who find relatives among these listing were 
privileged to have been related to one of the finest men I have ever known.

Because this research was done before I knew about the guidelines for the 
Tennessee Tombstone Project, any personal inscriptions (such as 'wife of' or 
'gone, but not forgotten) are not included.  I urge those who visit these 
cemeteries and observe these markers to add such information.   The listings 
came from my genealogical database on the family and include other 
information about the persons listed.  Here is a sample listing and what it 
means:

This (fictitious) listing is for Sampson Daugherty who was born in 1884 to 
Melvin Daugherty ( Melvin was born in 1849) and Martha Jane Chambers.  
Sampson was married first on 10/8/1909 to Hannah Williams.   His second 
marriage was to Laura who last name is unknown and his third to Rainey 
Tarbott.  He died in 1948 and is buried at Laurel Branch Cemetery in 
Briceville, TN

Some cemetery locations are not listed. The names I used are used by the 
local funeral homes so they should be able to provide directions.   Some 
listing simply have a death date and a county.  These were family members 
who had ties to Anderson Co, but moved and died elsewhere.  I was not able 
to locate all their burial records, but included the information (from death 
certificate indexes)  to assist others searching for missing ancestors.

ARE NEXT TO GRAVE.  TWO UNMARKED GRAVES BESIDE JAMES ARE HIS DAUGHTER'S 
(MARY JANE) CHILDREN WHO DIED AS INFANTS.
