He was 59 years of age which places his birth in 1859. In May, 1778, He entered the service as a Captain in Belinsky's Company- or the Independent Company of Cavalry in Colonel Pulaski's Dragoons. He went in 1779 to Charleston after the defeat at Savannah where Belinsky's company was cut to pieces. He was shot through both feet and cut through the body with a sword.
