Wren Carter to John B. Bates, Bedford Co., TN, 12 October 1822

[Note:  The description of this tract's boundary is incomplete.  Also, on the 
seventeenth line, "John" is crossed out and the rest of the line is occupied 
by scribbling, as though the clerk wanted to start over on the next line for 
some reason.  I've put that section of line in brackets.]

209)  Wren Carter to John B Bates for 100 Acres 
This Indenture made the Twelfth Day of 
October in the Year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred 
And Twenty Two Between Wren Carter of the one Part 
And John B Bates of the other Part said Carter being a 
Citizen of Alabama Madison County & the Said 
Bates of Tennessee Bedford County ------------- 
Witnesseth, that for and in Consideration of the 
Sum of Nine hundred and fifty Dollars to me 
The Said Wren Carter in hand paid the receipt 
Whareof I hereby Acknowledge and have bargained 
Sold and Delivered unto the Said John B  Bates 
His heirs and assigns forever a Certain Tract or 
Parcel of land Situate in the County of Bedford 
And State aforesaid & on the North Side of the South 
Fork of Duck River a Part of a Grant for 5000 
Acres Granted to [John ------------ ] 
John Gray Blount and Thomas Blount No 223 
Begining at a Stake on Carters original South 
West Corner thence North one hundred & forty 
Two poles to Carters line thence West to the 
Begining Containing one hundred acres 
more or Less To Have and To Hold the 
aforesaid Tract of Land with and Singular 
Rights profits emoluments hereditaments 
And appurtenances of in and to the Same 
belonging or in any wise appertaining to the 
only Proper use and behoof of him the Said 
John B Bates his heirs and assigns do Covenant 
And agree to and with the Said John B Bates

Land and bargained Premises I will warrant 
And forever Defend against the right Title 
Claim Interest or Demand of all and every 
Person or Manner of Persons whatever
