Elijah Holt to Samuel Jones, Bedford Co., TN, 3 January 1820

Surnames:  Holt, Jones, Payne, Crebbs

[Note:  Near the bottom of page 404, several words were lined through but 
still legible.  Probably the clerk lost his place in transcribing the metes 
and bounds.  I've put them in brackets:  [North...to a].  The middle initial 
of Crebbs appears to be a G, not a C as it was in the deed at Vol. L, pp. 
452-453; but the difference may be a slip of the pen--without the downstroke 
after the second small loop, it would be the same as this clerk's C.]

404)  Elijah Holt to Samuel Jones for 45 Acres 
This Indenture made this third day of January 
In the Year of Our Lord one Thousand eight hundred 
And Twenty between Elijah Holt of the County of Bedford 
And State of Tennessee of the one part & Samuel Jones of 
The County and State aforesaid on the other Part Witnesseth 
That for and in Consideration of the Sum of four hundred 
And fifty Dollars to me in hand Paid by the Said 
Samuel Jones the receipt whareof is hereby Acknowledged 
Hath Granted Bargained Sold alien Conveyed and 
Confirmed and do by these Presents Grant Bargain Sell 
alien Convey and Confirm unto the Said Samuel Jones his 
Heirs & assigns forever a Certain Tract or Parcel of Land 
Situate Lying and being in the County of Bedford on 
The north side of the Barren fork of Duck River & on 
The head waters of Dawdys Creek Begining on a Poplar 
marked thus EH Twenty poles west of Crawfords Trau 
Runing South eighty poles to a beech thence forty 
Poles to [a Lynn ?] thence north Eighty poles to a Lynn 
Thence west forty poles to the Begining also Begining 
at the South west Corner of Said entry of Twenty Acres 
Runing South Thirty poles to a Sugartree thence 
[North with Said line forty poles to a] west Sixty Poles 
The East boundary Line of John [Sohalys ?] to a Dogwood 
Thence north with said Line forty poles to a Sugartree thence 
East Seventy poles to the Begining also begining at the 
[--pg. 405--] North East Corner of the fifteen acre Tract thence East 
forty poles to a Sugartree thence north forty poles to a beech on 
the north boundary line of a Twenty acre entry thence with 
Said line forty poles to a beech thence south forty poles to 
The Begining Containing by Estimation forty five 
Acres be the Same more or Less, To Have and To Hold the 
aforesaid Tract of Land Together with all & Singular the 
Rights profits Emoluments Hereditaments & appurtenances 
of in and to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining 
To the only proper use and behoof of Said Samuel Jones 
his heirs and assigns forever and I the Said Elijah Holt 
for myself my heirs Executors administrators & assigns 
do Covenant And agree to and With the Said Samuel Jones 
his heirs & Assigns that the before recited Land & bargained Premises 
I Will Warrant And forever defend against the right title Claim 
Interest or demand of all & Every person or manner of 
Persons Whatsoever In Witness whareof I the Said Elijah 
Holt hath hereunto Set my hand & affixed my seal the & year above written

Certifyed for registration Given under my hand this 12th
