This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Bob Meadows rmeadows@krl.org ==================================================================== Shrewsbury Payne to Wren Carter, Bedford Co., TN, 4 January 1814 Bedford Co., TN, deed book G, pp. 259-260: 259) This Indenture made this fourth day of January in the year of our lord one thousand Eight hundred & fourteen between Shrewsberry Payne of the County of Bedford and state of Tennessee of the one part, & Wren Carter of the other part, Witnesseth, that for and in consideration of the sum of Fifteen Dollars to me in hand paid by the said Wren Carter the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted, bargained, sold, alien, coveyed & confirmed & do by these presents, grant bargain, sell, alien, convey & confirm unto the said Wren Carter his heirs & assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land Situate lying & being in the County of Bedford & on the north side of Duck river Barren fork. Begining at Shrewsberry Payne's north East Corner Sycamore the north bank of the barren fork of Duck river in Grant No. 223 which land was conveyed to the said S. Payne by Patton & Erwin thence running South Fortyfive degrees west Thirty three chain to a Hackberry, Thence north forty seven degrees west Thirty six poles to a Box Elder & a Beach Thence fifty six poles to the Begining con- taining two acres & Sixty four poles be the Same more or less. to have & to hold the aforesaid tract of land together with all & singular, the rights, profits emoluments heriditaments and appertenances of in and to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Wren Carter his heirs and assigns forever & I the said [--pg. 260--] Shrewsberry Payne for myself & my heirs and assigns Executors administrators and assigns do covenant and agree to & with the said Wren Carter his heirs & assigns the before recited land & bargained premises I will warrant & forever defend against the right title claim & Interest or demand of all every person or persons whatsoever.
