Sally Payne to Elizabeth Payne, Bedford Co., TN, 15 April 1825

Surnames:  Payne, Cortner

[Note:  This deed was transcribed into the book twice, starting on page 61.  
At the end of page 62, the clerk's certification stopped in midsentence.  The 
second clerk's transcription began on page 63 and ended on a page that was not 
numbered.  After the first few lines, the second entry's handwriting and 
spelling deteriorated, making it appear that the second transcription was 
being done by someone else.  The first name of one adjoining landowner was 
clearly spelled as "Argus" by the first clerk, then as "Argan" and "agrine" by 
the second clerk.  "SB Payne" referred to Shrewsbury Payne (usually written as 
Shrewsberry Payne).  Zebediah Payne was not listed as a witness in the first 
entry, but was so listed in the second.]

61)  Sally Payne to Elizabeth Payne Deed 
This Indenture made this fifteenth day of 
April in the Year of Our Lord one thousand eight 
Hundred & Twenty five Between Sally Payne 
Widdow of SB Payne Dec'd of the County of Bedford 
and State of Tennessee of the One Part and 
Elizabeth Payne Daughter of the said Sally of the 
County & State aforesaid of the Other Part 
Witnesseth, that for and in Consideration of 
The Sum of one Hundred Dollars to me in hand 
Paid by the Said Elizabeth Payne the receipt 
Whareof is hereby Acknowledged hath granted 
Bargained Sold alliened Conveyed & Confirmed 
and do by these presents Grant Bargain Sell 
alliean Convey and Confirm unto the said Elizabeth 
Payne During my natural Life or untill 
the time of my Deceased a Certain part or Parcel of 
Land Situate lying & being in the County of 
Bedford and on the Baren fork of Duck river 
Begining on Zebediah Paynes South East Corner 
on Two Beeches and Sugartree & Rung East to 
Argus Paynes South West Corner thence North 
along Said Argus Paynes line & Passing a nother Corner 
of the Said Argus & Continuing on the Same Course 
on the said Elizabeth Payns line to her North 
west Corner of a Parcel of Land laid off to her

Zebediah Payns line thence South thirty degrees East 
one hundred & Seventy Poles to the Begining 
Containing by Estimation forty acres be the Same 
more or Less being my Dower of Land Laid off

To Have and To Hold the aforesaid Tract or Parcel of 
Land Together with all & Singular the rights Profits 
Emoluments hereditaments & appertenances of in & to the 
Same belonging or in any wise appertaining to the 
only Proper use & behoof of her the said Elizabeth Payne 
her heirs and assigns during my Natural life & no longer 
and I Sally Payne for myself my heirs Exe's adm's & 
assigns do Covenant & agree to & with the said E Payne 
her heirs & assigns that the before recited Land & baganed 
Premises I will warrant & defend against the right

This Indenture made this fifteenth day of 
April in the Year of Our Lord one thousand eight 
Hundred and Twenty five Between Sally Payne widdow of 
SB Payne Dec'd of the County of Bedford & State of 
Tennessee of the one part and Elizabeth Payne daughter 
of the Said Sally of the county and state afforesaid 
of the other parte Witnesseth that for and in consider- 
ation of the sum of one hundred dollars to me 
in hand paid by said Elizabeth Payne the 
Recipte whareof is hereby acknowledged hath granted 
barganed Sold allaien convayed and confirmed 
and do by these prasant Grant Bargan Sell allin 
convaey and confirm unto the said Elizabeth Payn 
during my naturial life or untill the time of 
my Decease a certina parte or parcel of Land Sit- 
uated lying and being in the county of Bedford 
and on the Barrunt fork of Duck River Begining 
on Zebideah Payne South east corner on two 
Beaches and Shugartrees and runing east to 
Argan Paynes south west corner thence north 
alongue said Argan Paynes line and passing 
A nother corner of the said agrine and containing 
on the same course on the said Elizabeth Paynes line 
to hir north West corner of a parcel of Land laid 
off to hir out of hir fathers track of Land thence 
West to Zebideah Paynes line thence South thirty 
Degrees East one hundred and seventy Poles 
to the begining containing by convayance 
forty acres be the same more or Less it being 
my dower of land laid off out the track
