Page 2 #5223 Soldiers or Sailors Application for the relief of needy Confederate soldiers, residents of Alabama, who from wounds or other cause are now unable to earn a livelihood by labor, under act approved February 13th, 1891, (H.B. 969) and as amended February 18th, 1895 (S.B. 825). The State of Alabama} County of Jefferson } Before me M T Porter Judge of Probate in and for said County, in said State, personally appeared W M HAYNIE who being duly sworn, deposes and says: That while in the military or naval service of this State , or Confederate States he was a __Private__ in Company __E__ of __23__ Regiment of __Tenn Infantry__ and that he did not desert the services of this State, or Confederate States: That he __has now become disabled by means of old age & sickness__ and in consequence of such sickness & old age, he is physically unable to earn a livelihood by labor: That he is now a bona fide resident of Alabama, and that he has been such for at least one year prior to this date: That his Postoffice address is __Blossburg, Ala__ That he is engaged in the business of __none__ That his taxable property consists of __none__ and is not worth in the aggregate more than five hundred dollars: That his gross salary or gross income does not amount to five hundred dollars per year; and thiat his wife does not own a separate estate of more than five hundred dollars. And he hereby makes application for relief under said Act. Note from: E, R & Z - The initials stand for William Merial Haynie. Lived in Wartrace, Bedford Co, TN when he served in Civil War. There was also another W M HANEY in this same company. The above W. M. Haynie enlisted at Murfreesboro, TN on 7/1/1861. The other W. M. HANEY enlisted at Camp Trousdale on 8/23/1861. This latter info gleaned from Compiled Service Records.
