John Dysart, Sr., applied for revolutionary pension while living in Bedford County, Tennessee., August 2, 1832. He was born in Chester County, Pa., Dec., 25, 1849. He enlisted while residing on Muddy Creek, Burke County, N. C., in 1776, 1777, 1779, 1780 and 1781. He served under the following officers: Captains, William Moore, Robert Patton and Samuel Woods, Col. McDowell. He was in the battle of King's Mountain. He was referred to as John Dysart, Sr. His father, James Dysart, and his brother, William Dysart, were killed on the Yadkin River when Gen. Davidson was killed. He died in Bedford County, Tenn., Sept., 10, 1842. Note: John Dysart, Sr., married twice. He first married in 1733, Martha Patton. His second wife was _____ Woods. It would seem that both his wives were daughters of or otherwise closely related to his revolutionary officers, Capt. Robert Patton and Capt. Samuel Woods. The children by the first marriage were: James, born 1799, died 1852, married 1797, Martha Cowden; Robert, William, Frank, Andrew and a daughter.
