Curtiss curtissrc@att.net January 18, 2010, 9:59 am Source: Tennessee State Library And Archives Written: July 25, 1865 Recorded: November 1866 James H. Curtiss' Will July 25, 1865 Last Will And Testament of J. H. Curtiss Jr. 1st. I will that all my debts be paid. 2nd. I will one thousand dollars to the body of my daughter Nancy Ruth Curtiss. If she has no heirs and dies childless, I will her husband one hundred dollars, John L. Curtiss. 3rd I will the balance of my property to be equally divided between my children hereafter named viz. Frances A.E. Dysart, John William Curtiss, Benjamin Mosely Curtiss, James R. Curtiss, Mary Curtiss, Margaret Curtiss, or Bunchy as she is sometimes called. My wife Teresa Curtiss is to take dower, or a childs portion, as she may please. If a dower, to have the dwelling house to be included for her convenience. My son James R. Curtiss is afflicted with white swelling if he gets well so that he can labor without inconveniences - all his rights, if not he is to have two hundred fifty dollars more than the other children so he can get a better education. My advice is to sell off all the property that can be done without or that is of no particular benefit. I think it would be best to keep the property together for a few years and work it until some of the younger children get a little larger. Mt executor can do as they think best in this case. 4th I appoint my wife Teresa Curtiss, T.J. Dysart, my son in law, and my son John W. Curtiss, executors of my last will and testament. Given under my hand and seal this date above written. J. H. Curtiss Jr. witnesses W. A. Williams W. B. Wallace State of Tennessee Bedford County I Joseph H.
