Death of W.A. Richardson



It is with genuine sadness that we are this week called upon to report the 

death of our townsman, W.A. Richardson, after an illness of about four weeks of 

typhoid fever, death occurring Tuesday night about 12 o’clock. Mr. Richardson 

was a man well known and generally respected throughout this entire section, 

having been raised from boyhood in this immediate section. He was a man of true 

Christian character, just and upright, ever willing to lend a hand to the up 

building of the cause of Christ. He had been a consistent member of the Baptist 

church for years, and at the time of death was one of the trustees of the new 

Baptist church at this place. In church matters he was faithful and liberal, 

and when the end came he trusted his soul to Him who gave it with true 

Christian fortitude and childlike trust and simplicity. His life throughout has 

been a lesson in sobriety, honesty, honor and industry, and in his death we can 

say in all candor that Campbell County has lost one of the best and most 

respected citizens. Mr. Richardson leaves a wife and three children, besides an 

aged father and mother to all of whom our citizens extend their heartfelt 

sympathy. Funeral services were held Thursday at 11 o’clock at Douglas Chapel, 

Rev. Booth officiating, assisted by Rev. Lusty. One of the largest crowds ever 

assembled in LaFollette for a similar sad mission gathered to pay their last 

respects to their beloved friend and neighbor. Interment too place in Douglas 

cemetery.
