Crumley has a server attack of fever. *Music-Kirkland. *There are a number of cases of mumps in the city. *J.E. Johnston of Knoxville, was in the city Wednesday. *See Runyon's line of watches, jewelry, spectacles, etc. *Hon. H.B. Lindsay was in the city on business the first of the week. *W. P. Crawford of Careyville, was in the city Tuesday transacting business. *Fancy rugs-Kirkland. *Miss Mamie McGhee of Fincastle, is visiting Miss Cora Doughty for a few days. *Dr. J.U. Roach is again able to attend his practice after a sickness of a week. *Blankets, comforts, rugs, and lace curtains, (cheap) at Reed & Courts'. *Dr. B.B. Church South. *Those photos or Ellette's are up-to-date and artistic. *Miss Edith Wynn pleasantly entertained a company of young friends last night at the home of her sister, Mrs. J.H. Va., formerly superintendent of the lumber department at this place, arrived in the city last night and will remain here a few days. It is expected the plant will be rehabilitated and developed to some extent. Don't forget the place, Siler building. *The work on Tennessee avenues has been at a standstill for the past month on account of the sickness of W.A. Richardson, whose death occurred this week. Wash Green of Harriman, was in the city Tuesday and Wednesday on business. Capt. Green is salesman for the Vestal Lumber Co. and contracted the timber for the tunnels of the K., L. Petree has moved his grocery store from the bakery building to the old Hobbs building on Central avenue, where he has fitted up excellent store quarters and added much to his stock and to the general appearance of this store. *Meditation is unnecessary if you are considering where to buy that Christmas present, for you will get the best price, considering the goods, at the LaFollette Jewelry's Co's. *Fred Cobb and wife of Pittsburgh Penn., arrived in the city Tuesday morning and will spend some time visiting friends and relatives. Mrs. Cobb is a native of Campbell county, being a daughter of J.H. Richardson, and has been away for about seven years. *If you don't find it other places Kirkland has it. *Word was received at Maryville this week of the death of Re. T.T. Alexander, a former resident of that city, who died at Honolulu of heart disease on November 11. Rev. The promoters of the enterprise have been down from Michigan this week and announced their dissatisfaction at the result of experiments thus far. *Runyon has all kinds and sizes of sewing needles. *Andrew A. Warfield, representing the Bureau of National Literature and Art, of Washington, D.C., has been in the city this week superintending the distribution of the messages and state papers of the presidents of the United States, which is a work in ten volumes published under the authority of the government. *Toys, air-guns, kitchen-sets, rings, lockets, gold pens, albums, wagons, ping- pong games, books, writing paper, rubber balls, dolls, pictures, tool-chests, dumb-watches, A.B.C. blocks, medallions, banks, new-style cupid pins, wax candles and hundreds of other nice things, at Reeds & Courts'. *A sample of LaFollette sand was sent to Indiana Wednesday, where a practical test will be made of it to ascertain its adaptability to the manufacture of glass. We can say that the matter of the establishment of a glass factory here is still on. Negotiations are being made with a prospect of a successful termination. *Eyesight is of such great value that you can afford to put off your eyes for time, but be sure you get the best service possible. Adams, dentist, formerly demonstrator of operative dentistry in the Virginia School of Dentistry, Richmond Va., has located in the city for the practice of his profession. Dr. Adams has an office with Dr. Clickscales in the Rose Building., Mr. Adams comes here highly recommended and we are pleased to add him to our enterprising business community. *Frank Cook is making may improvements about the store of the LaFollette Furniture Company. It has become necessary, as business improved, to have more room, consequently the second story of the building has been converted into a storage room and undertaker establishment, with J.K. Tiller in charge, while a storage room has been fitted up beneath the building and all are chock full of seasonable goods. *Have Ellette, the Commercial Hotel photographer, make your Christmas photographs. *The quarterly meeting of the A.M.E. Zion Church will be held Saturday. Rev. J.M. Cornell succeeds Rev. Wm. R. Riley. He comes from Chattanooga to this charge where he has the reputation of being an able preacher, a fancier and great church builder. The same presiding Elder, Rev. J.D. Gaither, will preside. We hope for the church great success spiritually and financially this year. completed *If you want to see the most handsome line of Christmas goods ever seen in the city of LaFollette, call at Reeds & Courts' *A canning factory is to be started here in time for the berry, fruit and tomato crop next summer. Not later than February the farmers will be requested to plant a large acreage in tomatoes, and will be given assurances that the cannery to be started here will be prepared to purchase all the tomatoes they may have for market. It is understood that Jno. P. Rogers is the promoter of the enterprise, and will be one of the principal stockholders in the concern, *If you want to see the most beautiful line of Christmas goods ever brought here, consisting of silverware, dolls, vases, smoking sets, water sets, tea sets, mugs, decorated China, etc.,etc., call at Reed & Courts' *Through some arrangement recently established on the long distance telephone, all calls from this place have to go through Jellico, much to the inconvenience of out citizens, who are protesting lustily. It is almost impossible to get a telephone call over the long distance line from this point without spending an hour, and in some cases much longer. This is all wrong. LaFollette has reached a point where she deserves better treatment of long distance telephone services. *Big sale of ladies' and children's hats, beginning Saturday, December 6th. Willis has a force of men busily engaged upon his contract recently received from the LaFollette Company of developing the ore department. Mr. Willis will sink Shaft No. 1 100 feet, making a total depth of 229 feet, cut levels both ways and put in bins. Shaft No. 2 will be sunk 100 feet, making a total depth of 270 feet and levels will be cut and bins constructed. Shafted No. 3 will be sunk 225 feet, three levels will be cut both ways and bins put in as in the other two shafts. Mr. Willis states that the work will take some 10 months, and when completed the capacity of the ore department will be fully doubled. *You can not give your parents a more suitable Christmas present than a pair of gold spectacles.
