Dougherty Bk D Pg. 287 Grantee: Edward Gwin Gordon Browning Museum Date: 23 Feb 1838 Land: Rng 3, Sec 4 This Indenture made and entered into this Twenty third day of February A.D. one thousand Eight hundred and thirty eight between James F. Dougher ty of the County of Obion & State of Tennessee of the first part and Edward Gwin of the County of Carroll and State aforesaid of the second part Witnesseth That the said James F. Dougher ty for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty one hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said Edward Gwin the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have this day bar gained sold and conveyed and do by these presents bargain sell and convey unto the said Edward Gwin his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land ly ing and being in the County of Carroll and State afordsaid in Range three and section four on the waters of Clear & Crooked Creeks, and bounded as follows (to wit) Begin-ing on a black gum Iron Wood pointers, Runs East seventy two poles to a white oak hickory pointers. Thence North thirty four poles to a stake, black oak pointers the northwest corner of Hugh Hill's tract. Thence East one hundred & fifty poles to a hickory, hickory pointers, thence North one hundred & forty two poles to a black oak and dogwood, the south West corner of Ezekiel Thomas tract. Thence West six poles to three small black oaks, Luke Thomas tract, thence North forty poles to a stake cherry & wal nut pointers. Thence west eighteen poles to a hickory, post oak pointers. Thence North six & half West. One hundred and sixteen poles to a hickory. Thence East twenty two & one half poles to a post oak poplar pointers. Thence North ninety four poles to a post oak standing in the south boundary of R. B Edwards tract. Thence west two hundred & ten poles to a white oak the north east corner of John Gwin's tract. Thence South two hundred & twenty four poles to a stake four black oak pointers Gwin's south East corner. Thence West one hundred & Twenty poles to a stake in the low grounds Thence South to crooked Creek. Thence East with the meanders of Crooked Creek to the South boundary line of said six Hundred & forty acre survey. Thence East with said south boundary line to the beginning, the same being part of a tract of land granted by the state of Tennessee to James H. Dougherty for six hundred & forty acres, and containing by estimation six hundred acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold the above described land & bargained premises with all and singular the rights privileges, benefits, hereditaments and appurte nances there unto belonging or in anywise appertaining to the only proper use, benefit & behoof of the said Edward Gwin his heirs and assigns for ever and the said James F. Dougherty for himself his heirs & doth covenant and agree to and with the said Edward Gwin & c to warrant & forever defend the right title, interest and claim to the said Edward Gwin his heirs & from claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever.
