M. Lewis Bk M, Pg 157 Grantee: Edward Gwin Gordon Browning Museum, McKenzie, TN Date: 9 Jan 1857 Land:23 1/3 ac State of Tennessee Carroll County I Jas M. Lewis have this day sold and now convey unto E Gwinn of the county & State for Sd to him his heirs and assigns for ever for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and thirty two dollars & fifty cents to me in hand paid the receits whereof is hereby acknowl edged, a certain tract of land situated in the county & State afore sd being a part of a tract of land that the said Lewis bought of P. Jones and bounded as follows to wit begining on Said Lewis N.W. corner on a a stake 2 Black gums and Dogwood pointers on W. Travis East line and Thomas Patterson S. W. Corner & runs east 28 poles to a Stake 2 white oak & Dogwood pointers thence South one hundred and thirty three and one third poles to a Stake white oak Beech and maple pointers on the South line of the original, thence West twenty eight poles to a Stake 2 Beech pointers on w. Travis S. E. Corner, thence north one hundred and thirty three and one third poles to the begining. Containing twenty three and one Third acres be the same more or less. I the said Lewis do covenant with Said Gwin that I am lawfully seized of sd land Bargain & promise that I have a good right to sell it that the same unen cumbered that I will forever covenant and defend the title of the same to the said Gwin his heirs and as signs forever against myself my heirs and against the legal claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatever in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand affixed my sesal this the 10th day of March 1856.
