Moore to Phebe Scates, 10 Acres, Range 4 Section 2 This Indenture made 7th of June in the year one thousand eight hundred & forty two between Thomas Moore of the one part & Phebe Scates of the other part both of the county of Carroll & State of Tennessee Witnesseth that the said Thomas Moore for an in consideration of the Sum of fifty dollars to him in hand paid by the said Phebe Scates the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given granted bargained sold & by these presents doth give grant bargain & sell alien release convey & conffirmed unto the Said Phebe Scates her heirs and assigns a certain tract piece or parcel of land situate lying and being in the county aforesaid in range 4 Section 2 & the 12 Surveyors District which is butted and bounded as follows to wit Beginning _________ _______ by McDonalds beginning at a stake post oak dogwood & black gum pointers running N 13 ½ poles to a sasafras dogwood & sasafras pointers thence E 30 poles to stake three red oak & dogwood pointers thence S 43 1/3 poles to a stake elm & maple pointers thence W 30 poles to the begining containing by estimation ten acres to have and to hold the deed tract piece or parcel of land with all and singular the improvements hereditaments appertenances thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining to her the said P. Scates her heirs and assigns that the title to her and their proper use benefit and behoof forever and the said Thomas Moore and himself his heirs executors and administrators doth covenant promise & agree to and with the said P. Scates her heirs and assigns that the title to the above described tract or parcel of land he and they will warrant forever defend against the title claim & demand of all and every person or persons whatsoever setting up claim or title to the same either in law or equity in witnesses whereof the said Thomas Moore hath hereto set his hand and seal the day and year above written. Dudley & A. H. Scates after being sworn as the law requires says that they are personally acquainted with Thomas Moore & that he acknowledged that he signed the within deed for the purpose thence set forth & on day it bears date Witnesseth my hand at office this 5th day of January 1843.
