Eighteen Hundred and Fifty by and between James ROSS of the County of Carroll and State of Tennessee & John Morgan of the County and State aforesaid of the other part witneseth that for & in consideration of the sum of fifteen hundred dollars to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained sold and conveyed and by these presents doth bargain and sell and convey to the said John MORGAN a certain tract of land lying and being on the County of Carroll on Simpson's Creek waters of Sandy River Beginning on a large chestnut northeast corner of a twelve hundred and eighty acre tract of land being a part of a twenty five hundred acre survey conveyed by Thomas HUNT to Alexander MURPHY and by his attorney in fact Thomas A. THOMPSON to Theophilus MORGAN taken out of grant founded on Warrant No 1755 running thence West six hundred and forty poles to a stake on the West boundary line of the said twenty five hun! dred acre survey thence South 32 degrees East two hundred and forty five poles to a red oak thence South 25 degrees East forty poles to a post oak thence East one hundred and ninety four poles to a post oak thence East forty one & a half poles to a post oak thence North 64 degrees East two hundred and thirty four poles to a white oak in the East boundary line of the said twenty five hundred acre survey thence North fifty six poles to the beginning containing five hundred and seventy acres and that James ROSS doth hereby agree to defend the title of said land against all other claims and confer the title to the said John MORGAN his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof I the said John MORGAN and James ROSS have herewith set my hand affixed my seal the day and date above written. James ROSS, seal signed, sealed & delivered in presence of A. G. MORGAN & William B. SHAVER State of Tennessee Carroll County Personally appeared before me W.H. GRAVES Clerk of the County Court of said County James ROSS with whom I am personally acquainted and acknowledged that he signed the within deed for the purposes therein set forth and on the day it bears date witness my hand at office this May 4th, 1852.
