He was born April 5, 1763 in Harford County, Maryland. While residing in Harford County he volunteered early in the year 1780 and served in Captain Day's company. Colonel Alexander Cowan's Maryland regiment and guarded the shores of Chesapeake Bay. In the same year he re-enlisted and served in Captain Huchin's company, Colonel Cowan's regiment. In 1781 he enlisted in Captain Jacob Norris' Maryland company but after serving two months was sick and hired a substitute. Later still in 1781 he enlisted in a company of marines commanded by Captain Jesse Bussey and went on board the "Jolly Tar," commanded by Captain Belt. After cruising off Cape Henry for two months, the ship was in an engagement at Hampton Roads with the British Ship "Perseverance," in which they were captured. Samuel Everett was taken to New York as a prisoner and placed in the hold of the British prison ship "Old Jersey," where he remained for twelve months and was then parolled. In 1786 he moved from Maryland to Caswell County, and Orange County, North Carolina. In 1821 he moved to Smith County, Tennessee, and in 1826 he resided in Carroll County, Tennessee.
