MAJOR PLEASANT HENDERSON



   Major Pleasant Henderson applied for revolutionary pension while residing in

Carroll County, Tennessee, in 1832. He was born January 9, 1756, in Granville

County, North Carolina. He enlisted in 1776 and served in Captain Thomas

Satterwhite's company, Colonel John Butler's North Carolina regiment. He

volunteered late in the summer or fall of 1778, was appointed lieutenant and

served in Captain Richard Taylor's company, Colonel James Saunders' regiment,

and in Captain Jamison's company, Colonel Lytle's regiment. He marched to

Charleston and then to Savannah in defence of South Carolina and Georgia. He

re-enlisted in 1781 and was appointed major in Colonel Malmedy's regiment. He

was in the battle of Ramsour's Mill. He moved from Chapel Hill, North Carolina,

May 21, 1830, and arrived in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee, in July. He

attended the University of North Carolina and he stated that he had been chief

clerk of the House of Commons of North Carolina for many years. He died December

10, 1843, in Huntingdon. His wife predeceased him. He was survived by the

following children: Tip S.; Eliza I. Jones; and Alexander M.



    Note:- Pleasant Henderson was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Williams

Henderson. He married Sarah Martin, daughter of James and Ruth Rogers Martin. So

far as known the children of Major Pleasant Henderson were. Pleasant Jr.;

Alexander. Martin who married Elizabeth Earl Johnson; Tip S.; and Eliza I. born

1798 who married in 1820 Hamilton Chamberlain Jones.
