William Taylor's Will

Carroll County



I William Taylor being far advanced in life and in my proper mind do make this
my last will and testament revoking all others (Viz)

1st.  I will my soul to God who gave it and my body to the earth from which it
came.

Secondly   I will that all my just debts be paid.

Thirdly   I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife Charlotte Taylor my Negro
slaves to wit Wilson & Catharine & Gingo & Catharines increase during her
natural life or widowhood also my tract of land where I know live during her
natural life or widowhood also to two choice horses one yoke steers and wagon
and cow and calf and choice bed and bed stead and furniture besides to said
bed and twelve months support to have as many sheep as she may think she
stands in need of.

Fourth.   At the death of my wife or her marriage I will all my effects be
sold and equally divided among my lawful heirs with this injunction that John
Taylors heir Elizabeth's part be placed in the hands of a guardian to be kept
for her at Interest until she becomes of age and in case she dies before she
becomes of age for her part to come back and be equally divided among my other
heirs I appoint as her guardian John Mc Auly and in case he should die or
leave the County for the County Court to appoint a suitable guardu for her.

5.   I will that Sam a slave which is not in the fore part of this my will be
left in the hands of my Executors and that they sell him to the best advantage
and that the proceeds of the sale be divided between my two daughters Sally
Gooch and Francis Butler that amount to be counted to them on a final division
and also wish two hundred Dollars to be deducted from my son William A. Taylor
part on a final division for I handed him that amount sometime since more than
any of the rest also my son Lewellen holds a note against me for two hundred
Dollars which I want the principle of said note paid and I bring up as a set
off against the interest the trouble I have been for the last several years
with him during his illness.

6th.  I hereby appoint Lewellen Taylor and P. T. Butler as my Executors to
carry out this my last will and testament  In testimony whereof I have here-
unto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this 2nd day of Jany 1860.
