This agreement didn't follow through to build on the C. C. Taylor land. We the undersigned promise and bind ourselves our heirs and to pay to Samuel E. Patton, Caswell C. Taylor, William H. Young and John Q. Williams, the respectable sums annexed to names for the purpose of building a suitable house for an academy and church. It is to be occupied by M. H. B. Burket for his heirs either in person or by some sutable person that may be employed by said Burket or his heirs, as long as he or his heirs may choose to use it as teachers. And as a church it shall at times be subject to the use of any Orthodox protestant religeous denomination as a house religious worship porvided the membership of the denomination requesting the use of it has subscribed and paid one hundred dollars toward the erection or completion of the house, provided such religious meeting does not discommode any school that may be organized or about to be organized in said house at such time. The denomination subscribing (sic) and paying the most toward the building to have the prefference and at anytime that said M. H. B. Burket and his heirs shall suspend the use of said house as an academy or discontinue entirely said Samuel E. Patton, Caswell C. Taylor, William H. Young, and John Q. Williams shall take possession of said house during said suspenseion or discontinuance and see that it be used for no other purpose than for the advancement of education and religion. They are also hereby constitu (here it is unclear) trustees for the purpose of contracting for the building of said hosue on the place that they may esteem most suitable for the neighborhood, to superintend the building of the same and collect and apply the sums hereinafter subscribed for the same purpose as they may consider best for the public good. Each religious denomination shall be entitled to an additional member to the board of trustees for every one hundred dollars subscribed and paid toward the erection and completion of the building. The location to be made upon the lands of Caswell C. Taylor or A. W. Taylor on the West side of Buffaloe creek selected by the above named trustees with the addition of A. W. Taylor, the sums subscribed to be paid to the trustees when called for by them as specified by us when subscribed as witness our hands this 13th day of December 1837. _____ Taylor $100 in trade equivalent to iron at 3 cts pr lb John Q.
