F. Morton is Alexander F. Morton (1785- abt 1861). Alexander F. Morton first settled on Stoney Creek than later moved to the Hampton area. I believe that Alexander came from Montgomery County North Carolina (Don't know if he was born there). 1880 census records confuse his birth place. According to his surviving children he was born in either Virginia, North Carolina or South Carolina. January 1860 A.F. Morton the Bargainor or maker of the within deed with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that he made and executed the same for the purposes therein contained witness my hand at office this 17th day of January 1860. I hereby transfer and convey the following described tract of land lying being in the State of Tennessee Carter County and in District No 1 containing by estimation one thousand acres be the same more or less. Beginning on a spruce pine above John Potters field on the Hoss Ridge then north 30 poles then west to the back line of the said tract then north to a stake near the top of the Iron Mountain then north east to a stake on the State line then south 22 east to the top of the Horse Ridge at the State line then west with the top of the ridge to the beginning. To have and to hold the same to the above named children and their heirs forever I do warrant and forever defend the title of the said land against the lawfull claims of all persons whatever.
