Born in Elizabethton, Tenn., he was a son of the late John and Viccie Vanover Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a Corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II. In addition to his parents, Mr. Adkins was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Price Adkins, in 1998. Survivors include two daughters, Rita Frost of Anderson and Martha Presley of Chester; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Wright's Funeral Home in Chester. A local visitation will be held in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home, Kingsport, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 16. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home. Military graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 521 North McDuffie Street, Anderson, S.C. 29621. Wright's Funeral Home, 115 York Street, Chester, S.C., is in charge of arrangements.
