Aldridge James Hoyt Aldridge, 78, of Mableton, Ga., passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at his residence. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Ross F. and Dovie Honeycutt Aldridge. Mr. Aldridge was retired from the textile industry after 45 years of service. After his retirement he was full-time owner/operator of Hoyt's Hauling. He was an avid beekeeper and gardener. He was a member of Smyrna Christian Church, Smyrna, Ga., and a former member of Hopwood Christian Church. Mr. Aldridge was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 and a member of Kerbella Temple, Knoxville. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ruth Meredith Aldridge; his baby sister, Iva Lee Aldridge; a brother, Monty Earl Aldridge; his special uncle, Andrew "Shorty" Aldridge; and his brothers- in-law, Claude, Lloyd and Kenneth Meredith. Survivors include two sons, Jim Aldridge of Walhalla, S.C., and Tim Aldridge of Mableton, Ga.; a daughter, Julia Geneva Strazay and her husband Stephen of Powder Springs, Ga.; three grandchildren, Timothy Hoyt Aldridge, Destiny Rebecca Aldridge and Adam-Ross Csaba; special friend, Carolyn Poole; two sisters, Gereel Cable and her husband Jim of Hampton and Mayme Pate of Elizabethton; a brother, Garrett Aldridge and his wife Regenia of Johnson City; his aunts, Dessie Street Cantrell and Juanita Honeycutt; his sisters-in- law, Beulah Aldridge and Peggy Meredith; his brother-in-law, Roy Gene Meredith and his wife Doris; his nieces, Carol Roberts, Theresa Brinkley and her husband Bill, Bobbie Garland and her husband Danny, Anita Perkins, Vera Peters and her husband Michael, Carol Meredith Brown, Jenny Meredith, Bobbie Parlett and her husband Ed, Linda Meredith, Linda Kay Aldridge Ditmore and her husband Anthony and Brenda Aldridge-Farr; and his nephews, Michael Keith Pate, Jerome Pate and his wife Donna, Leo Meredith and his wife Janet, Martin Meredith and Tom Meredith. Funeral services for Mr. Aldridge were conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dean Smith officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, will be Jim Aldridge, Tim Aldridge, Timothy Hoyt Aldridge, Bobby Ditmore, Billy Ditmore, Scotty Hayes, Mike Pate, Keith Pate, Leo Meredith, Martin Meredith, Adam Ross and Tom Meredith. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 conducted a memorial service following the funeral service. Military graveside honors will be provided by the VFW Post #2166 and the Tennessee National Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Sunday to go to the cemetery.
