Wilmetta G. Arney 





    Wilmetta G. Arney, 83, formerly of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, 

September 9, 2007, at Wexford House, Kingsport, following an extended illness. 





    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late William Barry 

and Ella Taylor Gourley. 





    Ms. Arney was a former sales clerk in ladies clothing. She was a member of 

Central Church of Christ. 





    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James 

Adrian Gourley, and two sisters, Mary Treadway and Frankie Gourley. 





    Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John Michael and Susan Arney 

of Johnson City; a sister, Mattie Davis of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two 

grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. 





    The graveside service for Ms. Arney will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday, 

September 11, at Milligan College Cemetery with Mr. Steve Payne, minister, 

officiating. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet 

at the cemetery at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and 

neighbors. Friends may call at the residence of her son, John Michael Arney, 1 

Honeysuckle Court, Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 

Holston United Methodist Home for Children, 404 Holston Drive, Greeneville, TN 

37744. Online condolences may be sent to the family by signing the guestbook

    Arrangements for the Arney family have been entrusted to Hathaway-Percy 

Funeral Home.
