Allen 1/31/00 Olive P. Allen, 95, 204 Wilbur Dam Road, Elizabethton, died Jan. 29, 2000, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late William Ben Allen and Nancy Jane Treadway Allen. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert, Frank and John Allen, and two sisters: Mary Nave and Maude Coley. Miss Allen graduated from Carson Newman College, did post-graduate work at the University of Hawaii and Columbia University of New York. She taught English at Elizabethton High School, Educational Director of the Citidel Baptist Church, Charleston, S.C. It was during this time the desire of her heart was realized in a call from the Foreign Mission board to Hawaii. After 10 years, she accepted a call to Thailand, where she served 10 years, which was followed by a period of service in Vietnam during the beginning of the Vietnam War, serving until retirement. When the refugees came to Arkansas, she was again called into service because of her knowledge of their customs. Miss Allen has spoken to many churches and civic organizations in Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina. She was a member of Siam Baptist Church. Survivors include one sister, Bernice Allen Morrell, 1004 Walker Street, Elizabethton; one brother, William Jones (Bill) Allen, 165 Bill Allen Road, Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. ALLEN -- Funeral services for Miss Olive P. Allen, 95, 204 Wilbur Dam Road, Elizabethton, who went to be with her Lord Saturday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in the Siam Baptist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Gatton and the Rev. Jack Roddy officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Nave Cemetery. Music will be provided by Norine Allen, organist; Bill Anderson, pianist; and Brian Wilson, soloist. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 7:50 p.m. Monday and also at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, will be Charles Allen, John Allen, Ben E. Allen, Mike Allen, Guy Allen, Scott Elliott, Jack Woodward and David Rotenberry. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her nieces, nephews and cousins, her church family, members of the International Baptist Missionary Board, all of her children she has taught through the years, also Ben A. Morrell, Ray Elliott, Frank Ward and Arnold Frazier. To those w ho prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Miss Allen to the World Hunger through the Siam Baptist Church, 2414 Siam Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643, or the donor's favorite charity. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the church. Friends may also call at the residence of her brother, Bill Allen, 165 Bill Allen Road, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
