Arnett, 78, formerly of Roan Mountain, died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Stockton Residential Home for Elderly, Roan Mountain, following an extended illness. Mr. Arnett was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Jacob Walter and Cordie Jane Lacey Arnett. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Warren Arnett, and a sister, Mary Frances Arnett. Mr. Arnett was a retired carpenter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served with the Army Air Corps in the European Theater. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Dugger and Jeanie Jones, both of Roan Mountain; a son, Ricky Arnett, Roan Mountain; two sisters, Florence Birchfield and Eva Oxendine, both of Roan Mountain; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend at Stockton Residential Home for Elderly, Mamie Shell. Arnett, 78, formerly of Roan Mountain, who died Saturday, May 18, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Jim Storie officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Rev. Mark Street. Committal and entombment services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, May 20, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 12:55 p.m. Monday for the committal service. Active pallbearers will be Jack Blackwell, Roger Heschong, Leroy Stockton, Leslie Roberson, Carl Brown and Mike Haggie. Honorary pallbearers will be Roby Hopson, Floyd Storie, Ralph Brown, Claude Lacey and Charles Lacey. A special thanks to the staff of Stockton Residential Home for Elderly and the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
