CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Bill Arwood, 11 Mar 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Bill Arwood Bill Arwood, 78, Doe Lane, Roan Mountain, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Arwood was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Rollins and Blanche Hughes Arwood. He was also preceded in death by three wives, Maxie Freeman Arwood, Marie Miller Arwood and Zona Gaynell Lambert Arwood, a son, Don Arwood, and a brother, James Arwood. Mr. Arwood was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation and Summers-Taylor, Inc. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippine Islands, and was the recipient of three Bronze Stars. He was a member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Terri and Rocky Hughes, Peggy McMahan and Angie and James Tribble, all of Elizabethton, and Jeanette and Roy Street, Roan Mountain; a sister, Gladys Street, Roan Mountain; a brother and sister-in-law, Luther and Geraldine Arwood, Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Cody Street, Josh Hughes, Lori Osborne and Scotty Arwood; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Osborne and Faith Osborne; and a nephew, Steve Arwood. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. ARWOOD -- Funeral services for Bill Arwood, 78, Doe Lane, Roan Mountain, who died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Blevins officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, in the Arwood Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Blevins and the Rev. Kurt Styron officiating. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Friday, will be Lawrence Street, James Tribble, Roy Street, Cody Street, Rocky Hughes, Dillard Street, H.B. Richardson, Danny Hughes and Scotty Arwood. Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Putman, Spence Stockton, Steve Arwood, Thomas Osborne, Eugene Gouge and the men of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Adventa Hospice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at his residence.
