Mr. Ashley was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Jim and Harriett Grindstaff Ashley. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ben Ashley, and three sisters, Nora Hodge, Martha Hamby and Elizabeth Campbell. Mr. Ashley was a retired farmer. Survivors include a son, Ray Ashley, and a sister, Annie Potter, Roan Mountain; a brother, Jim Ashley, Elizabethton; Several nieces and nephews also survive. Jim Storie officiating. Interment will follow the services at Isaacs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robert Dugger, Danny Ray Potter, Charlie Potter, Scottie Potter, Tony Lee Potter and Dean Jones. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rhododendron Chapel. Friends may also call at the residence of his sister, Annie Potter, at any time.
