CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Joe S. Atwood, 29 Nov 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Joe S. Atwood Joe S. Atwood, 67, Whaley Town Rd., Butler, died Saturday, November 29, 2003 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late John Vernie and Eva Jane Strickland Atwood. He had lived in Illinois for 30 years before returning to Carter County in 1993. Mr. Atwood retired in 1992 as a molder with the Brass Foundry of Peoria, Illinois. He was a member of the Tabernacle of God Church, Johnson City. Survivors include his wife, Hattie Pearl Arnold Atwood; one daughter, Arizona Miller, of Johnson City; three sons, Cecil Ray Atwood, of Hampton; Denny Joe Atwood, of Trivoli, Ill., and Jeff Lane Atwood, of Elizabethton; one step-son, Loyd Dugger, Butler; two brothers, Earl Atwood, of Mountain City, and Bob Atwood, Hampton; seven sisters, Mamie Hodge, Elizabethton; Doris Nelson and Bernice Barnes, both of Johnson City; Dorothy Reece and Margaret Campbell, both of Butler; Jean Perkins, of DeKalb, Ill. and Lois Lathrop, of DeKalb, Ill.; and six grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2003 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Doug Wagner, Rev. Glenn Sheets and Rev. Tim Carver officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003 in the Washington County Memory Gardens. The Sheets family and By Way of the Cross Singers will provide the music. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
