John William Bailey 





    John William Bailey, 84, of Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain, 

died there Wednesday, October 4, 2006, after an extended illness. 





    Mr. Bailey was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Frank 

Bailey and Ann Whitehead Bailey Miller. In addition to his parents, he was 

preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Bailey Smith, a brother, Gordon Bailey, 

and a nephew, Darrell G. Smith. 





    Mr. Bailey was a 1942 graduate of Happy Valley High School. He was a 

retired farmer. 





    Survivors include a nephew, David E. Smith of Johnson City, and a niece, 

Pamela Barnard of Florence, Ala. Seven great-nieces and great-nephews and six 

great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews also survive. 





    It was Mr. Bailey's wish to be cremated and no services are planned. 





    Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge.
