A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Ruben Brooks and Cora Alice Conley Davis. Mrs. Bales retired from Wal-Mart where she had worked as an assistant manager. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Paul Bales, three brothers and four sisters. Survivors include her son, William Paul Bales II and his wife Cynthia of Piney Flats; a brother and four sisters. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial graveside service for Mrs. Bales will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Thursday for the graveside service. Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Davis, Dayton Scalf, Jimmy Ensor, Jimmy Ensor II, W.E.
