Mrs. Barnett was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late William M. and Mattie Townsend Julian. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ford Barnett, a brother, Paul Julian, and two sisters, Pauline Barnett and Oledia Butler. Mrs. Barnett was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church and very active in Sunday School. She was a graduate of Milligan College where she received her teaching certificate and then received her Master's Degree from ETSU. She taught in the Carter County School System for 40 years, was a member of the PTA and a leader in the local 4-H program. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Cussie Barnett, Elizabethton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra and Paul Boyd, Elizabethton, and Shelia Barnett, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Terry Barnett and his wife Dawn, Newland, N.C., Diane Barnett, Elizabethton, and Chris Boyd, Jonesborough; a great-grandson, A.J. Boyd, Jonesborough; four brothers, Herbert Julian, Willard Julian, Howard Julian and Norman Julian, all of Hampton; two sisters, Mary Lou Williams and Jeanette Calhoun, both of Hampton; and special friends, Mary Testerman, Vicki McGlothlin and her cat. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Barnett will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, March 17, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Eggers officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dale Williams, soloist, and Sue Bowers, organist. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the service in the chapel, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Kenneth Mann, F.D. Elliott, Raymond Townsend, Herbert Julian, Carmen Whitehead and J.D. Calhoun. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Williams, Ed Crum, Keith Williams, Michael Julian, Jimmy Hyder, Kenneth Williams, the men from Hunter First Baptist Church, Stevie Buckles and friends and neighbors. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Hunter First Baptist Church, 693 Hwy. 91, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or to the Arthritis Foundation, TN Chapter, 1719 West End Avenue #303, W.
