Gladys Barnette 

Gladys Barnette, 88, 160 Herman Barnette Road, Roan Mountain, died Sunday, 

November 20, 2005, at Pine Ridge Care Center following a brief illness. 

Mrs. Barnette was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Oliver 

and Irene Winters Heaton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death 

by her husband, Herman Barnette, two sisters, Lucy Miller and Birdie Roark, and 

three brothers, Fred, Luther and Pete Heaton, all of Roan Mountain. 

Mrs. Barnette was a member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church and was a 

housewife. 

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Ruth Barnette, 

Elizabethton, and Jack and Sue Barnette, Roan Mountain; two grandsons, Justin 

Barnette and Gordon Barnette, both of Roan Mountain; a granddaughter and her 

husband, Terri and Carter Blevins, Elizabethton; a great-granddaughter, Sarah 

Blevins; a brother and sister-in-law, Tip and Dorthy Heaton, Elizabethton; 

three sisters-in-law, Mable Stocton and Dorthy Patton, both of Roan Mountain, 

and Martha Heaton, Charlotte, N.C.; and special neighbors, George and Beth 

Putman, S.D. and Betty Hughes and Judy Heaton, all of Roan Mountain. Several 

nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive. 

The funeral service for Mrs. Barnette will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, 

November 22, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, 

with Rev. Richard Blevins officiating. Music will be provided by the Burbank 

Quartet and Sarah Blevins. Interment will follow in the Johnson-Roan View 

Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Justin Barnette, Gordon Barnette, Ronnie 

Heaton, Jerry Heaton, Robert Heaton, Wade Heaton, Wayne Heaton and Carter 

Blevins. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to 

the Carter County Emergency and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 682, Elizabethton, TN 

37644. Special thanks are extended from the family to the nursing staff of Pine
