Bergmann Hazel Sutphin Bergmann, 91, formerly of 400 Daytona Place, Elizabethton, died Sunday, December 30, 2007, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late John Cleveland and Eliza Grindstaff Sutphin. Mrs. Bergmann retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 50 years of service. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bergmann was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Bergmann, and four brothers, Harold Sutphin, Harry Sutphin, Bill Sutphin and Herman Sutphin. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Allown, Johnson City; a grandson, Afif Allown, Johnson City; a special son, Zapher Allown, Johnson City; and a special cousin, Josie Shook, Elizabethton. Many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Bergmann will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Dr. Erwin L. Lueker, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow the service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from nephews and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary White, Dr. Keith Morley, Bill Feathers, and Bob and Charlotte. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. A special Thank You to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Judy Deloach, Marsha Hawk and all of her nurses including Kate, Shelby, Traci, Sue, Kathy, Lisa, Elwonda and the loving, caring CNAs.
