Bowers Mary M. Elliott Bowers, 84, 219 Old Siam Road, Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Bowers was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late William and Emma Lou Potter Elliott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Bowers, two children, Carol and Johnny Paul Bowers, two great-grandchildren, and a brother, Henry Elliott. Mrs. Bowers was a member of Bible Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Survivors include two sons, Robert H. Bowers, and companion, Faye Eggers, Elizabethton, and Billy C. Bowers and wife Lisa, Hampton; seven daughters and four sons-in-law, Fay Dean, Hickory, N.C., Mary and Gene Rowe, Conover, N.C., Elsie Humphrey, Joyce Clark, Cathryn and Robert Mitchell, all of Elizabethton, Nancy and Steve Reece, Johnson City, and Sandy and Robert Hammett, Elizabethton; 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great- grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Goldie McKinney and Gladys and Crawford Potter, all of Roan Mountain; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Betty and Buddy Carden, Roy and Peggy Gale, Faye Eggers, Pastor Jim and Betty Murray, her church family at Bible Baptist Church and her caregivers. The funeral service for Mrs. Bowers will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Hardin and Rev. Frank Osborne officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, at Deloach Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from grandsons. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Bible Baptist Church, 1215 Broad Street Ext., Elizabethton, TN 37643, c/o of the Children's Department.
