"Ma" Brown, as she was known by her loved ones, was born in the Shell Creek Community of Carter County. She was a daughter of the late Will and Stella Shell McKinney. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker. She was a member of Hampton Free Will Baptist Church, but attended Pearce's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Hampton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Frank Brown, a son, Elmer Brown, seven sisters and two brothers, Lois Beam, Maxine Matherly, Creola Stanley, Pink Hicheck, Edith Arnold, Lillie "Till" Lyons, Gladys McKinney, Ernest McKinney and Roy McKinney. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Don and Dottie Brown of Eustis, Fla., Bill and Brenda Brown and Larry Brown, all of Elizabethton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Buddy Jones, Norma Jean and Stuart Dyer and Creola and Shelby Miller, all of Elizabethton; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Agnes and T.J. Walker of Elizabethton and Willie and Dick Baughman of Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, November 24, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jonas Revis officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 25, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and other family members. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Brown to the Gideons, The Imagination Library or the Johnson Cemetery (Crabtree). The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the Roan Highlands Rehabilitation, Home Health and Hospice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at her residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
