Baird Bessie A. Baird, 89, formerly of 207 West Mill Street, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness. Ms. Baird was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Noah and Farrie Hicks Gentry. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Lewis Baird, in 1976, and two sisters, Ruby Gentry and Cora Ellen Ensor. Ms. Baird was a member of Keenburg Free Will Baptist Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was retired from Bemberg Corporation. Survivors include a son, David Ward, Elizabethton; two brothers, Ernest Gentry and Frank Gentry, both of Elizabethton; a sister, Lucille Taylor, Elizabethton; and three grandchildren, David J. Baird, High Point, N.C., Debbie A. Baird, Johnson City, and Jesse S. Ward, Elizabethton. Four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Baird, 89, formerly of 207 West Mill Street, Elizabethton, who died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, June 23, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Rev. Mark Street officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, at Highland Cemetery, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be selected from the men of Keenburg Free Will Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be the doctors and nursing staff of Hermitage Health Center, fellow employees of Bemberg Corporation and friends and neighbors. The family, friends, minister and pallbearers will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the home of her son, David Ward, 163 Old Stoney Loop, Elizabethton, any time.
