CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Maudene N. Baird, 18 Aug 2004

Maudene N. Baird, 89, former resident of Central Community of Carter 
County, died Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at NHC Heath Care, Johnson 
City. 

A native of Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late W.L. and 
Elva Allen Nave. 

Mrs. Baird was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church where she and 
her husband were long-time treasurers of the church. 
She was a homemaker and dedicated wife and mother. 
Mrs. Baird was an avid rose gardener and a member of the Watauga Valley 
Rose Society.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy B. Carpenter, Johnson City, and 
Virginia B. Hayes, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Cheryl L Hayes, 
Kingsport; Bobbie H. Phillips and her husband, Dennis, and James "Jay" P. 
Hayes III, Kingsport; two great-grandchildren James W. Phillips and Evan 
P. Hayes, both of Kingsport; a nephew, Randal Nave, Johnson City; and 
special friend, Betty Bowers Risk, of Tampa, Fla 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, 
Ralph J. Baird and one brother, Carson R. Nave.

The funeral service for Maudene N. Baird will be conducted at 8 p.m. 
Thursday, August 19, 2004, in the Sunrise Chapel, Tetrick Funeral Services, 
Johnson City, with Rev. Reece Harris officiating. The family will receive 
friends in the chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. The 
committal and burial service will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park, 
Friday, August 20, 2004 at 10 a.m. Those who plan to attend are asked to 
meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Active pallbearers will be James "Jay" 
P. Hayes III, Dennis R. Phillips, James W. Phillips, Randal Nave, Tony 
Young and Stephen LaHair. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. William P. 
Bailey, Jr. and William Greenlee. For those who prefer memorials in lieu 
of flowers, donations may be made to Sinking Creek Baptist Church, 2313 
Elizabethton Hwy., Johnson City, TN 37601. Online condolences may be sent
