CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Ford Baker, 14 Apr 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Ford Baker, 82, Crabtree Road, Roan Mountain, was called home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospital. Mr. Baker was the son of the late John and Eva Harris Baker. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred Baker; a sister, Daisy Townsend; several brothers and sisters at an early age; a granddaughter; and a daughter-in-law, Melissa Baker. Mr. Baker was of the Baptist faith and a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. Mr. Baker was a devoted husband to Louise Markland Baker, of the home; loving father of four sons, Michael C. Baker and wife Cassie, Elizabethton, Johnny R. Baker, Karmet Baker and Ford J. Baker and wife Sabrina, all of Roan Mountain; two daughters, Nancy Lowe and husband Rondall, Elizabethton, and Deborah Jones and husband Terry, Roan Mountain; and respected and cherished grandfather of Sharon Melton, Evie Baker, Richard Largent, Angelique Lowe, Scotty Baker, Kody Baker, Joshua Largent, Misty Baker, Katlin Baker; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Annie Leonard, Roan Mountain, and Lorene Wright, Hickory, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Juanita Baker, Roan Mountain; and a brother, Georg Baker, Roan Mountain. The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Jerry Shelton and Kenneth Baker officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday, prior to the funeral service. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at Harrison Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ikis Nave, Kermit Richard Largent, Larry Sisk, Joshua Largent, Scottie Baker, Kenneth Baker, Jason Birchfield and Rick Largent. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.
