Richard Gene Banner, 74, Bob Little Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, March 
26, 2005, at his residence. 

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Hyder and Clara Belle
Peregoy Banner. He was a 1947 graduate of Happy Valley High School, attended
East Tennessee State University and the Chicago Technical College, where he
received a certificate in drafting and design. Prior to his going into
business for himself, he was employed at the Bemberg Corp., North American
Rayon Corp., and Sperry Corp. of Bristol. He operated Banner Sales and
Engineering for several years. Mr. Banner was a member of all the Masonic
bodies he had held various positions. He was a member of the Elizabethton Elks
Lodge, where he was Past Exalted Ruler. He was Past President of the Tennessee
Elks Association and was currently Chairman of the Board of Tennessee Elks
Association. He was a member of the Big Spring Church of Christ, a member of
the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Mr. Banner served in the United States
Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid golfer, UT football fan and
the UT ladies basketball team. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Hermann Banner; and by two sisters,
Pauleene Campbell and Charlotte DeVault. 

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jeanell Miller Banner; two sons and a
daughter-in-law, Richard Banner, Raleigh, N.C., and Paul and Barbara Banner,
Mesquite, Texas; a grandson, Thorin Banner; three step-granddaughters, Lauren,
Megan and Katelyn Dumas, all of Mesquite, Texas; a sister-in-law, Anna Banner,
Elizabethton; a brother-in-law, Clifford Miller, Johnson City; a sister-in-law
and brother-in-law, Anita and Bert Poarch, Jacksonville, Fla. Memorial Funeral
Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
