Barnett Mrs. Hazel Birchfield Barnett, 72, 115 Blevins Road, Roan Mountain, died Sunday, October 8, 2000, at the residence of a sister, Nan Bautista, 1643 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, after a brief illness. Mrs. Barnett was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Aught and Celia Hopson Birchfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Luther Barnett, January 21, 1977. Mrs. Barnett was a member of the Hopson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to Mrs. Bautista, include four other sisters, Florence Beebe, Cloverdale, Calif., Vi Cummings, Elizabethton, Louise Whitehead, Hampton, and Margaret Tinsley, Lakeland, Fla., and three brothers, Jack Birchfield, Wiconisco, Pa., Bill Birchfield, Cloverdale, Calif., and James Birchfield, Smithville, Texas. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. BARNETT -- Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Birchfield Barnett, 72, 115 Blevins Road, Roan Mountain, who died Sunday, October 8, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Terry Jones and the Rev. Bob Campbell officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 12, in the Tiger Whitehead Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, will be Bob Grindstaff, Neil Whitehead, Mark Whitehead, Allen Whitehead, Jack Birchfield, Bill Birchfield, James Birchfield, Ronnie Holsclaw and Larry Tinsley. Honorary pallbearers will be David Miller, Dr. R.S. Martin, Dr. David Fenner, Luther Blevins, employees of Housecall Hospice, her church family and the Willing Workers of Hopson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a sister, Nan Bautista, 1643 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
