CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Rometta McKinney Barnett, 29 Apr 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Rometta Barnett Mrs. Rometta McKinney Barnett, 78, Scalf Rd., Hampton, died Thursday, April 29, 2004 in the Erwin Health Care Center. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Phillip and Rose Hyder McKinney. She was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. She was a member of the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church but attended the Simerly Creek True Holiness Church. Mrs. Barnett was preceded in death by a sister, Alzora Morton and a brother, Roland McKinney. Survivors include her husband, Robert J. Barnett; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Wanda and Hensley Stevens, Roan Mtn.; Zelda and Lindburg Estep, Elizabethton, and Phyllis Houser, Newland, N.C.; a brother-in-law, Mack Morton, Hampton; a sister-in-law, Velma McKinney, Hampton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronda and JoAnn McKinney; Ronnie and Judy McKinney and Barney and Betty McKinney, all of Hampton; seven nieces, Carolyn Byrd, Yvonne McMahan, Grace Ann Estep, Ginger Guy, Lisa Salvage, Sherry Shoals and Lena Peters; three nephews, Eddie Morton, Lindy Phillip Estep and Phillip Stewart; several great nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2004 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. B.F. McKinney, Jr., and Rev. Randy Gobble officiating. The graveside service and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2004 in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home. The Heavenly Echoes will provide the music. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Monday, will be Eddie Morton, Harlen Guinn, Chris Collins, Michael Scalf, Mitchell Morton and Curtis Hyder. Honorary pallbearers will be Sheriff John Henson, friends and neighbors. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to the Unicoi County Hospital staff and the Erwin Health Care staff and Dr. Collinger. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence.
