"J.B." Berry, 77, 802 South Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at his residence. Mr. Berry was a native of Carter County and a son of the late William and Burnia Buckles Berry. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Arthur Berry, and a sister, Iva Garland. Mr. Berry was a retired pipe fitter and welder and a member of the United Association of Plumbing and Steam Fitters, Local #538, Johnson City. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 and a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, where he had been teacher of the Men's Bible Class for 40 years. Survivors include his wife, Georgia Campbell Berry; a son, Matthew J. Berry, Elizabethton; two brothers, Kenneth Berry, Sacramento, Calif., and R.H. Berry, Watauga; three sisters, Letha Lyons and Florence Keller, both of Elizabethton, and Ida Campbell, Watauga; and a granddaughter, Monica Bowers, Knoxville. Two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. BERRY -- Funeral services for John B. "J.B." Berry, 77, 802 South Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, who died Saturday, April 27, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Elmer Carter and the Rev. Phil Poston officiating. Music will be provided by Kathy Curtis and JoAnn Campbell. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, April 29, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Monday, will be Packy Fair, Frank Richardson, F.D. Elliott, Paul Bishop, Norman Peters and Dwight Richards. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Berry to the Building Fund of First Free Will Baptist Church, 706 First Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
