CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Rev. Earl J. Berry, 5 Mar 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Rev. Earl J. Berry, 79, Big Springs Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness. Rev. Berry was a native of Carter County and a son of the late William McKinley and Mimmie Gregory Berry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Emmert Berry, June 30, 1998; his mother-in-law, Viva Emmert, in 1998; two brothers, Bill Berry and Jimmy Berry; and a sister, Mary Ann Berry. Rev. Berry was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. He was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church and had served as minister at Beck Mountain Baptist Church, Powder Branch Baptist Church, Big Springs Baptist Church, True Gospel Baptist Church and several other Baptist churches in the area. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Dawson Grindstaff, Elizabethton, and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Helen Berry, Lawrence and Nancy Berry, all of Elizabethton, and Clarence and Sue Berry, Madisonville, Ky. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Rev. Berry will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home. Due to Rev. Berry's Pastor, Rev. Ken Kyker, being out of town, the Rev. Bobby Stout and the Rev. Burl Garland will be officiating. Music will be under the direction of Kenneth Miller, soloist, and Mrs. Sue Bowers, organist. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Military Honors accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post No. 2166. Active pallbearers will be Ron Berry, Rick Berry, Keith Berry, James Berry, Lawrence Anthony Berry and Charles Berry. Honorary pallbearers will be Gunnery Sgt. Jeffrey Berry, with the U.S. Marine Corps, Parris Island, S.C., Timmy Berry, Homer and Shirley Miller, Jon Whitson, J.C. Honeycutt, Mike Asher, Mac Grindstaff, very special friends, Michael Grindstaff, Tammy Hammonds, Jay Conrad, Janice Woodby, Debbie Johnson, Alice Martinez, Sandra Brock, Barbara Pierce, Pam Parks Miller, Evelyn Brooks, Ann Bare, two special caregivers to Rev. Berry for going the extra mile, Annaliese Heavner and Mayme Pate, the Staff of Life Care Center, the Special Staff of South Hall and the men of Big Springs Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
