CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Ruth Berry, 28 Jun 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Ruth Berry, 70, Watauga Road, Watauga, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at her residence following a brief illness. Mrs. Berry was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late William Jennings and Maude Russell Sams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Berry; her mother-in-law, Margaret Honeycutt; a grandson, David Smith; and a brother, Bob Sams. Mrs. Berry was a member of True Gospel Baptist Church for 40 years and was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Kermit Smith, of the home; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dana and Nancy Berry, Cumming, Ga., Leonard and Rhonda Berry, Keith and Missie Berry and Teddy Berry, all of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Margaret Potter, Hampton, Vina West, Fletcher, N.C., Betty Hollifield, Newland, N.C., Sally Leach, Johnson City, and Charlotte Sams, Elizabethton; five brothers, J.W. Sams, Hampton, Bill Sams, of Florida, Jim Sams and Paul Sams, both of Elizabethton, and Jerry Sams, Johnson City; and a special sister-in-law, Charlotte Warner, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Berry will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, July 1, in the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. Dean Presnell and Rev. Melvin Ferrell officiating. Music will be under the direction of the True Gospel Trio. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be her brothers, J.W. Sams, Paul Sams, Jerry Sams, Jim Sams and Bill Sams, and her brothers-in-law, Larry Leach, Roy West and Junior Hollifield. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family. Those attending are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at other times at the residence, 767 Watauga Road, Watauga.
